Hope Comes in Many Forms

And Then Came  Arthur

I started writing about my experiences as a mother after the birth of my beautiful boy/girl twins in October 2001.  As I shared my story with my local Mothers of Multiples chapter, the reality of what I had survived after their birth hit me like an aftershock.  When you are in the middle of an earthquake, you know the ground is shaking, but you can only hang on and pray to get through it.  My mommy-of-twins story explores the nature of the human spirit and spirituality in the face of tremendous adversity.

My deepest desire is that you walk away from this book with a feeling of inspiration, fully appreciating the struggles you’ve conquered.  In a word - Hope.  Hope crept into the people in my life in small ways: a despondent dad's love of a found dog; a comatose mom’s request to listen to Howard Stern; me dragging myself out of bed during chemotherapy to hug my children.

Looking for themes of hope and spirituality, I examined past generations within my family.  Seeing everything - formal religions, conflicting religions, rejected religions - in my family tree also forced me to examine the question that has always tugged at me - what is required for one to be good and blessed?

In the end, I believe that it is the thoughts and deeds that determine who you are.  Be a person of blessings; go about each and every day endeavoring to be kind, good and truthful.  Whether you do this on a large scale or in a small way, this is what makes you a blessed person.  The stories in my book are filled with such kind acts.
